Patrick Butler graduated from Virginia Tech with his PhD in May 2014. His
area of dissertation research was on the topic of Knowledge Discovery for
Intelligence Analysis which among other things was using Twitter and other
openly available data sources to predict population wide events such as civil
unrest and influenza occurrences. Dr. Butler specializes in data analytics (data mining),
visual analytics, and social media analysis.
